Structural

Career Description

Some elements of the Air Force are meant to stay grounded, like bricks and concrete. As a Structural specialist, you'll learn to build everything from an impromptu hangar in the middle of a desert to a locker room for a gym facility. You'll have to master the skills and tools associated with everything from masonry and woodworking to welding and metalwork. And since we have bases and Airmen around the world, you'll learn how to work in any environment and situation.

Career Tasks

  • Construct, maintain, plan and repair wooden, masonry and concrete buildings and structures, including concrete footings, foundations, walls, floor slabs, piers and columns
  • Erect framework by placing, joining and fastening sills, joists, subfloors, studs, rafters, trusses and wall and roof sheathing using hardware and fastening devices
  • Install interior and exterior trim and finishing materials
  • Lay structures according to blueprints, building plans and other directives
  • Apply mastics, repair or construct mortar beds and install floor and wall tile
  • Install, construct, repair and modify structures that are made of sheet metal. In addition, you will cut, measure and join pieces using metal cutters, benders, riveting equipment and gas and electric welding equipment

Training

After eight-and-a-half weeks of Basic Military Training, every Airman goes to technical training to learn their career. Here's the basic information about Structural technical training:
